5 Genius Ways to Organize Your Home for Your Baby

Organizer Your Home for a New Baby-01.png

New moms can feel overwhelmed by all of the things they need to do before the baby arrives. One of those overwhelming things is to make the perfect nursery and to stock up on certain items before the baby arrives. But there’s something missing. As moms, we are enamored with the idea of creating the perfect nursery, that we miss the fact that the baby probably won’t be sleeping there a majority of the time until they are at least six months old. Man, I wish I know this before going to the hospital! I didn’t realize that my baby would take up my entire house. Now that Aiden is 7 months old, I decided to share some simple ways to prepare your home before your baby arrives. These are tips and tricks that I have picked up along the way. And I hope these home preparation hacks will help you make mom life more manageable once your baby arrives.

Set Up the Pack n’ Play

You thought that nice Pack n’ play you registered for was supposed to be for travel, didn’t you? I thought the same thing. Then I had a Eureka! moment. Rather than buying a bassinet for our bedroom for Aiden to sleep in, let’s just set up the Pack n’ Play instead. And most new Pack n’ Plays come with a built-in bassinet and changing station. Multipurpose furniture is my favorite kind of furniture. And when your baby gets older, you can use it as a playpen. There’s just no bad thing to say about a good Pack n’ Play.

Waterproof Changing Pad Covers

I’m like every mom out there. I wanted cute changing pad covers for the nursery that matched the bedding. Then I found out how unrealistic that was when pee or poop got everywhere. Thankfully, I registered for a waterproof changing pad cover. It’s been on there ever since. All I have to do is wipe it down with disinfectant wipes and we are good to go. Deep inside, I still want cute changing pad covers that match Aiden’s bedding and stuff. Then I noticed that he doesn’t pee every time I open the diaper anymore. Oh my goodness, it was amazing to not get peed on. So, once I realized that he didn’t pee when opening the diaper, I started to use the cute changing pad covers again.

Make a Home Kit and Car Kit

As a mom, you can never be too prepared. Of course, I was one of those moms that had to make sure the nursery as perfect. Everything was stock and where it should’ve been. I didn’t think to stock things throughout the house for when we brought Aiden home. I didn’t think I would need burps clothes, sanitizer, bibs, clothes, wipes, and diapers stashed throughout the house. We ended up making a little station in our bedroom and the living room for quick and easy access if Aiden ever had a blowout or needed a quick change. This still boggles my mind, but somehow, Aiden manages to have peed come out the top end of his diaper. So, a quick change of his diaper and clothes were always needed.

Same goes with your car. So, load up your car kit with all the necessities, so you aren’t scrounging around in the diaper bad trying to find everything. You’ll be surprised at how often your car turns into a changing station. Make sure to pack diapers, wipes, a portable changing pad, blanket, hat (summer and winter), jacket, bib, and grocery bags for dirty diapers.

Organize Clothes by Size and Season

Before Aiden was born, I organized all of his clothes by size. Everything was folded or hung neatly (surprisingly it still is). Things that I thought were way too big for him, I packed away until he outgrew the smaller items. Now that it is winter, I have his drawers pack with summer and winter things. Why? Obviously, it’s cold outside. No brainer. However, our house can get really warm at times. Especially in Aiden’s room when the door has been shut when he’s sleeping. Unlike Jared, I love the warmth. But when I walked into Aiden’s room, it was HOT! So, if I’m not, then he’s probably hot. So, he’ll wear summer clothes if it gets way too warm in the house even though it’s winter.

I also make sure that I have the next size up in his drawers as well. Often times, babies can wear different sized clothes at the same time. It just depends on the manufacturer. Not to mention, they grow so quickly that even if they don’t fit in the bigger clothes at the beginning of the season, they will at the end of the season. And when he does outgrow something, I simply put it in a bin and store it away for future use.

Make Way

Take a look around your house. It’s probably pretty full as it is. Now add another human that has way more stuff than you thought possible. Prepare your home for baby by finding a place for all those new things so that they don’t drive you insane. Clear out an entire cupboard shelf to make room for bottles, sippy cups, bowls, plates, spoons, etc.

Create a space designated for their toys. That can be in their room, play room, or a corner in the living room. Make room in your storage area so that you have an easy place to put things when they outgrow them. You’ll be shocked at how quickly you’ll be packing away swings, bouncy seats, and bassinets. Try your best to not let the amount of stuff overwhelm you.
